Visit Dallas Announces New Commissioner of Dallas Film & Creative Industries Office

Visit Dallas is proud to announce the appointment of Tony Armer as Commissioner of the Dallas Film & Creative Industries Office (DCFIO). Armer will begin his new role on January 1, 2023.

Armer comes to Visit Dallas from St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida, where he has been the Film Commissioner since 2014. During his tenure, Armer ushered in the most productive era of the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Film Commission’s 30-year history, driving record-breaking revenue and economic impact for the county. Additionally, he is an award-winning filmmaker and founded the internationally acclaimed Sunscreen Film Festival.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tony to the Visit Dallas team. With his extensive experience, strategic mindset and immense creativity, he is uniquely qualified to revitalize the Dallas Film & Creative Industries Office and position Dallas as a premier destination for creative leaders across the country and beyond,” said Craig Davis, President and CEO of Visit Dallas.

The Way of The Rain

On Oct. 22, at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, EarthXFilm will showcase the US Premiere of The Way of the Rain – Hope for Earth. It’s a mixture of film, art, live orchestra and an in-person performance from one of our favorite filmmakers, Robert Redford, all inside the Meyerson Symphony Center in the Dallas Arts District. Dallas International Film Festival

The Dallas International Film Festival is back! Dallas’ premiere film festival kicks off on Oct. 14 at Alamo Drafthouse Cedars. Stay tuned for the full lineup announcement very soon. Passes are on sale now.

Topaz Film Festival

For 21 years, Women in Film Dallas has provided a platform for independent female filmmakers to promote their work through its annual film festival. The Topaz Film Festival is back in 2022 and will kick off on Oct. 20. The full lineup is out now, so head to their site and take a look at the schedule.


Local Film Spotlight 

A BIG congratulations to Gopal Bala and his upcoming short film, Basmati Butter Chicken, for being selected to screen at the The Academy qualifying Urban World Film Festival in New York! The film will have its world premiere at the festival alongside more than 100 film entries from around the globe. Watch the tailer here

Fresh off of an impressive film festival run, Dallas-based Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences alumnus, Merced Elizondo, has released the official trailer for his latest short film: MANOS DE ORO. Watch it now on Argo, the streaming service housing short films from some of the best film festivals around the world.
