Archive Dive featuring Don Stokes

February 24 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

In this month’s Archive Dive, we will meet with one of the filmmakers featured in our newest web exhibit, Mavericks and (M)ad Men: The Industrial Film Legacy of Dallas. Don Stokes was all but raised in the Texas film business, working for the Jamieson Film Company and the Stokes Group before founding his own company, Post Asylum, in 2002. Join us as we discuss his career and the legacy of the Dallas film industry alongside highlights from our Stokes collection, which includes industrial and government films, promotional and marketing films, and television commercials for familiar brands like Frito-Lay and Lone Star Beer. Tune in on Thursday, February 24 at 6 pm CT on Facebook Live, YouTube Live, and Twitch.
Archive Dive is made possible in part with a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
To learn more about the history of industrial filmmaking in Dallas, explore our digital exhibition, Mavericks and (M)ad Men. Hosted on Google Arts & Culture, the exhibit uses surviving film and videotape collections to tell the story of a few of the independent filmmakers who turned the Texas metroplex into an epicenter for commercial film production.
